First & Second Generation Healing

Being a child of immigrants is a unique experience. You're in this odd spot of balancing two different cultures, that give conflicting messages about life. It's sometimes difficult to navigate and can feel isolating too. We understand; and that's where we come in.

On the one hand, you may feel grateful for being afforded the opportunities you have. You understand there was sacrifice involved and appreciate the stories and struggles your parents faced. But, on the other hand, it feels heavy, because honestly, you don’t always feel grateful. Maybe most of the time, you feel overburdened. Your parents don’t understand what it’s like growing up here. You’ve tried to express this to them, but they shut you down, point out the obvious, and instruct you to be grateful and obedient because they didn't raise you to be disrespectful.

Balancing two contrasting cultures isn’t easy, especially when they appear so different. It wasn’t accepted or cool to follow, eat, or wear half of the ‘trends’ people do these days, when you were growing up. Confusion doesn’t even begin to cover it. Maybe it feels like you should feel connected to these things but don’t. Maybe you even feel resentful because the things you had to love in hiding are now 'trendy.' Or perhaps people look at you and expect you to be the unofficial spokesperson for the entire culture and you're frustrated. It's all valid.

All of the feelings you experience around having a dual identity are okay, and in truth you aren't alone. There is space for you in this world, exactly as you are. Together we can work to discover how you can feel more comfortable in your own life and feel like a whole integrated person, not so 'parts put together.' Our goal is for you to feel safe and belong. We'll start by identifying what you desire and work on a plan to help get you on the path you want to live. Yes, it is possible, trust us we've done it too!
